CLAIM EUROPEAN FINAL PLACE
By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Aberdeen
businessman Nick Robson, who could not hit a ball at the start of the
tournament because of strained back muscles, is fighting fit now and has
played a big part, on his international debut, in helping Scotland to
reach the final of the European senior men's amateur team championship
at Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The
Scots beat England 3.5-1.5 in today's (Friday) semi-finals with Germany
winning 3.5-1.5 in the other tie against Italy, shock winners over top
seeds Ireland in the quarter-finals.
Against
England, it was level pegging at 1.5pt apiece with two singles to
finish and they were won by Robson and Ian Brotherston from Dumfries.
Robson had a very good 2 and 1 win against Alan Mew, who was the top Englishman in the stroke-play qualifying rounds.
Brotherston
won by 3 and 2 over David Niven to clinch victory for the Scots whose
other singles winner was Graham Bell from Downfield by 3 and 2 against
