NORWEGIAN SETS COURSE RECORD 63 AT LUMINE

HENRY EAGLES 18th TO BE LEADING

SCOT IN SPAIN

Despite a double bogey 6 at the eighth Scott Henry shot a two-under-par 69 (36-33) to be the best of eight Scots at the end of the first day of the Challenge de Catalunya at Lumine Golf and Beach Club, Spain.
After birdies at the first, second, 10th and 12th, Henry, pictured,  made his day with an eagle 3 at the par-5 18th to be six shots behind Norwegian Joakim Mikkelsen who set a course-record 73 to lead by one.
Jack Doherty and Paul McKechnie, both with halves of 35, also matched each other's one-under 70s.
Callum Macaulay had an excellent outward half of 32 but6 came home in 39 for a 71.
A double bogey 6 at the 12th dragged him down.
Challenge Tour rookie David Law was alongside Macaulay on the 71 mark with halves of 35-36.
Law birdied the second and fifth but did not have another until the 17th
Raymond Russell's five bogeys outnumbered his four birdies in a 72 (37-35) while Duncan
Stewart bogeyed the last for a 72 (35-37).
Andrew McArthur brought up the rear for the Scottish eightsome with a 74 (37-37),
lowlighted by a double bogey 7 at the 15th. It could have been worse. He got his second birdie of the day at the 18th.

Challenge Tour breaks new ground in Azerbaijan

The European Challenge Tour will once again be growing golf around the world when the inaugural Azerbaijan Open Challenge marks the first professional golf tournament held in the country, which lies south of Russia next to the Caspian sea.
The addition of the €300,000 tournament, which will be held at National Azerbaijan Golf Club, in Quba, from July 31-August 3, means that the Challenge Tour schedule is now one of the strongest, most lucrative and far-reaching in its 26-year history.
