ROSS CAMERON SURVIVES SEVEN-MAN PLAY-OFF AT CRIEFF

EVERETT WINS SPGA CHAMPIONSHIP

QUALIFIER BY FIVE SHOTS WITH A 64

Craig Everett (Caldwell) shot a splendid round of seven-under-par 64 at Crieff Golf Club today to be the leading qualifier of 18 for the Gleneagles Scottish PGA Championship, being played early this year (May 5 to 7) because of the Ryder Cup in September.

Everett's score was achieved on preferred lies but that does not diminish in any way a bogey-free round of seven birdies - second, sixth, 11th, 13th, 14th, 17th and 18th.
Everett, pictured right, son of a one-time champion distance runner, picked up the £100 leading qualifier prize by five strokes from the joint runners-up on 69 - Mark Hillson (Tandridge), Jonathan Cliff (Murrayfield), David Laing (Craigielaw) and unattached senior Ross Drummond.
There was a seven-man play-off featuring those who finished on two-over 73 for the last qualifying place.
It was won by Ellon's Ross Cameron (Saltire Energy) who birdied the second extra hole.
The second qualifying competition will be held over the same course tomorrow (Thursday).
