However,
these are just small steps in a long-term formative process.
Early
achievement in sport is not necessarily a good indicator of success in
the future and the best indicators of future success are psychological
characteristics like commitment, resilience, self learning and work
ethic. These are traits which we have witnessed our winners and many of
the others on the tour developing as they progress on their learning
journey.
Winning is important but at the Scottish Junior Golf Tour we believe that success is even more important.
So what is the difference between Success and Winning?
John Wooden, one of the most revered coaches in the history of sports, described success as “peace
of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you
did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming.”
So,
not all our juniors can win order of merits in a particular year but if
they tried their best, worked hard and stuck in then they too were
successful.
At
the Tour we aim to provide a rewarding shared experience for all our
juniors and their families. Our positive “learning not telling”
philosophy and inclusive egalitarian ethos combine to form a truly
holistic development environment for all our golfers and their families;
so that in the end everybody is successful.
