Shaun shines in
rain at Leven
Gold Medal
Former Scottish boys' open stroke-play champion Shaun McAllister (Craigielaw) set the first-round pace in very wet conditions for the Standard Life Leven Gold Medal 72-hole Scottish Golf Union Order of Merit tournament at the Fife venue this weekend.
Shaun, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, all rights reserved, also beaten semi-finalist in last year's Scottish amateur championship, shot a three-under-par 66 to lead by one shot from St Andrews Links Trophy winner, Keir McNicoll (Carnoustie) with Fraserburgh's Kris Nicol a short further back in third place.
New Scottish champion Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan) was in the group sharing fourth place on 69.
The man he beat in the 36-hole final at Carnoustie last weekend, Steven McEwan (Caprington) had a rare off day. He returned an 83 which made it very unlikely he would survive the halfway cut.
