SANDY PIRIE ONE OF
3 NEW CAPS IN
SENIOR SCOTS TEAM
FOR IRELAND

Former Walker Cup player Sandy Pirie (Hazlehead) will make his debut for Scotland's over-55s line-up in next week's European senior men's amateur team championship at Shannon Golf Club, Ireland. Pirie, pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, all rights reserved, played in the 1967 Walker Cup match.
There is a well-deserved first cap too for Tulliallan's Bob Stewart who won this year's Scottish seniors title at Elgin.
The third new senior international is Derek Murphy from Kinross.
John Fraser was a shinty international with Newtonmore and played golf for the North-east District when the teaching profession took him to Aberdeen. He is now based in Edinburgh and a member of Royal Burgess.
The Scotland team continues to be skippered by Monifieth's Ian Hutcheon who played in the Walker Cup matches of 1975-77-79-81.
Team for Ireland is:
Ian Hutcheon (Monifieth) capt., John Fraser (Royal Burgess), Gordon MacDonald (Callander), Derek Murphy (Kinross), Sandy Pirie (Hazlehead), Bob Stewart (Tulliallan).
Scotland won the European title in 2006 but were pipped by Ireland last year. There will be two rounds of stroke-play next Wednesday and Thursday with five from six individual scores to count for the team total each day.
Only the leading four teams from a field of 20 countries after 36 holes will make up the championship match-play flight, in which the matches consist of one foursome and four singles.
