Challenge Tour lead on 69

England’s Richard McEvoy held his nerve to card a three under par opening round 69 at the ECCO Tour Championship in Denmark as he joined four other players for a share of the early clubhouse lead.
The former Walker Cup player holed eight foot putts on both the 17th and 18th to save par at Kokkedal Golf Club following a birdie on the 16th.
That meant he joined fellow early clubhouse leaders, Swede Gustav Adell, Portugal’s Ricardo Santos, Raphaёl de Sousa of Switzerland and Poland’s Roland Steiner.
The 29 year old said: “I played solidly all the way round and holed a couple of good putts on the last two holes to save par.
“I’ve just been trying to forget about my swing and relax. It’s a big couple of weeks coming up and it would be nice to get some form going into them.
“The course has had a lot of rain and the greens are not in the best conditions but I’m just trying to play my own game.”
