-play at
Drumpellier

Top seeds Iain Stewart (The Curragh), Derek Murphy (Kinross), Gordon MacDonald (Callander) and Ronald MacLean (Hamilton) all cleared their first hurdles with comparative ease in the first round of the Scottish senior amateur men's match-play golf championship at Drumpellier Golf Club today.
Former Walker Cup player Sandy Pirie (Hazlehead), pictured right by Cal Carson Golf Agency, 10th of the 32 qualifiers, lost by 3 and 2 to David Smith (Stirling) while Scottish seniors champion Bob Stewart (Tulliallan), a dangerous "floater" at No 22 in the draw, won by 6 and 5 against the 11th qualifier, Colin Christy (Kilmacolm).
Gordon Paterson (Northern) was the only winner on the day from Aberdeen. He beat Bob Edgar (Blackpool North Shore) and now plays Pirie's conqueror, David Smith
Royal Aberdeen suffered a double whammy defeat - Balgownie members John Johnston, who was capped for Scotland before and after he became a senior, and Francis Clark both lost their opening ties.
