Roger Clarke wins play-off for North
of Scotland boys' championship

By ROBIN WILSON
Moray's Roger Clarke went clear at the top of the North District's junior order of merit table on Sunday after winning a two-hole play-off at Elgin against Ian Allan (Hopeman) in the North of Scotland boys' championship for the H R Spence Trophy.
After 36 holes Clarke finished on 140 with 71 and 69, and Allan on the same mark with 68 and 72 for a one-shot advantage over Kyle Godsman (Hopeman).
Clarke, returned to the course with his rich vein of form intact - he had won the first merit counting event the previous weekend at Royal Dornoch - to win the two-hole play-off against Allan.
Both players parred Elgin's first hole but both missed the fairway at the second play-off hole, Elgin's 18th. Both took three to reach the green where Allan fell foul of his putter and took three more to get down ,losing with a double bogey 6 to Clarke's bogey 5.
Local player Danny Edwards clinched the Under-16 section with cards of 74 and 72 for 146 and his even younger club mate Scott Dunn was the overall handicap winner with net 129, off 28.
