North man playing on Gateway Tour

JIMMY GUNN HAS WON $2,848
FROM LAST TWO EVENTS
IN ARIZONA WINTER SERIES

The professional career of Dornoch's Jimmy Gunn is off and running - in Arizona!
Jimmy, who left for the States to play on the Gateway Tour Winter Series, soon after turning pro a couple of months ago, has played in three events so far.
He missed the cut in his debut (January 8 to 10) with rounds of 77 and 75.
In his second outing (January 15-17), at Peoria, Arizona, Jimmy had rounds of 74, 70 and 77 for a five-over-par total of 221. There must have been bad weather for the tournament that week because normally that kind of scoring would not survive the 36-hole cut. But he finished joint 25th place and picked up a cheque for $1,523.
Then, in his third outing (January 21-23), at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona, Jimmy was getting the hang of things by then and stepped up his standard of play to score 67, 72 and 72 for four-under-par 212 and a share of 26th place. His cash prize for that effort ws $1,325.
That means 27-year-old Jimmy has earned $2,848 from his three competitions. But Jimmy will still be out of pocket by a long way. He would have had to pay up from a fee of $10,000 to get on the entry list for the Gateway Tour Winter Series in which each event has a total prize fund of $126,000 and the winner of each receives around $19,000.
Gunn's next event is at The Wigwam Golf Club in Litchfield Park near Phoenix, Arizona from February 5 to 7.
The event will be over a course, designed by Robert Trent Jones and measuring 7,200yd. But in the warm, dry air of Arizona the golf ball flies further so it's not the "slog" it seems.
