LEE (17), THE WIZARD IN OZ
Danny Lee, only 17 years old, made every post a winning one as he romped away with the Lake Macquarie amateur championship by 10 strokes with a record-equalling total of 20-under-par 268 at Belmont Golf Club, Newcastle in Australia's state of New South Wales.
Lee was 14th in the R&A World Amateur Golf Rankings going into this tournament. He will have edged closer to the top 10 with this impressive victory.
Lee, pictured right with the trophy, outclassed the quality field with scores of 66, 67, 66 and 69 over the par-72 circuit. His nearest rival at the finish was Australian team player Matthew Griffin on 278.
Gary Wolstenholme was the leading UK player in joint 13th place with 71, 74, 71 and 69 for three-under-par 285.
English compatriot Matthew Cryer, who won the previous week's event on the Australian amateur circuit finished joint 25th on 288.
Ross Kellett (Colville Park), Craig Watson (East Renfrewshire), Wales' Zac Gould and England's Ben Loughrey all finished on 294 (jt 53rd).
