NEWS FROM BIARRITZ CUP
West of Scotland Open champion Callum Macaulay (Tulliallan) finished a highly creditable joint eighth in an international field of 154 for the 72-hole Biarritz Cup which ended at Biarritz Le Phare Golf Club in southwest France today.
Macaulay, who plays on the American college golf circuit for the
Callum’s aggregate of four-under-par total of 272 saw him finish 11 shots behind the long-time leader Pedro Oriol Sanchez-Blanco (
Duncan Stewart from Grantown-on-Spey, winner of the Chiberta Grand Priz four-round event the previous weekend – the first Scot since Graham Fox in 1998 to win the prestigious event, finished like a train to fill 21st place on level par 276 in the Biarritz Cup.
Stewart, who had a great season on the 2005-2006 American college circuit with Jacksonville University, Florida, look a bit tired after his Chiberta GP heroics when he opened with rounds of 71 and 73 at Biarritz Le Phare. In fact, he made the halfway cut with nothing to spare.
But after that
With hindsight, Stewart would have been an asset to the Scotland team in the European youths' team championship in Spain a couple of weeks ago.
