Nairn's Robert Smith leads way at Luffness New

Day 2 Report: Scottish Senior Men’s Open Championship

An extremely tough day in blustery conditions at Luffness New Golf Club saw Nairn’s Robert Smith finish top of the pile after posting the low round of the day, a one-over par 71.

Smith will now take a two-shot lead into tomorrow’s final round as he looks to claim the title for the first time.

English Senior Men’s Open Champion, Ian Attoe, was one of the other big movers on day two as he moved himself firmly into contention as part of the chasing pack. Taking advantage of an early tee time, Attoe posted a two-over par round of 72 and sits just two shots back on three-over.

Day one leader, Graham Bell, found the conditions tough as he battled his way to a six-over par round of 76. Although he will be disappointed to have given up the lead on day two, Bell still heads into the final round just two shots back from Smith.

Englishman Ian Clarke is also part of the chasing pack on three-over after a second round of 72; a round that included 16 pars and two bogeys.

2018 champion, Ronnie Clark, is safely through to tomorrow’s final round but will have his work cut out if he is to defend his title. Clark posted a second round of four-over to sit on sixover for the championship.

The cut for this year’s Scottish Senior Men’s Open Championship fell at 11-over par with the top-60 and ties progressing to Friday’s final round.
