Sam Locke, Chris Doak, John Henry

bow out at European Tour Q School

The penultimate sections of First Stage European Tour Qualifying School have come to a close and a further 51 players have booked their places in Second Stage.
Unfortunately, Sam Locke (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) from Stonehaven, failed to survive the cut.
The latest batch of players earned their place in Second Stage this week following four days’ play at two more First Stage venues: Frilford Heath Golf Club in Abingdon, England, and at the Bogogno Golf Resort in Italy.
In England, 27 players qualified for Second Stage with Ireland’s Gary Hurley coming out on top following rounds of 71-71-68-69 for a nine under par total.
Hurley was the stand-out performer in England, finishing three shots clear of his nearest competitors who led the chasing pack on six under. Welshman David Boote, American Jack Maguire and English duo Jamie Rutherford and Andrew Wilson – an amateur – finished in tied second.
Wilson was one of four amateurs to qualify from Frilford Heath, the others being Englishmen Jack Floydd (-1), Ben Hutchinson (-1) and Nicholas Poppleton (-5).
Floydd and Hutchinson clinched the last available qualifying spots with their one under par finish alongside Scot Paul McKechnie and Michael Miller. Those finishing in 24th place and tied earned their spot in Second Stage. Jamie McLeary made the cut just ahead of McKechnie.

Final totals at the European Tour Qualifying School first stage competition at Frilford Heath Golf Club were:
par 288 (4x72)
