Kris Nicol wins first prize of £700 at Carnoustie

Kris Nicol from the Dunes Golf Centre, Fraserburgh) won the first prize of £700 by two strokes with a fine round of three-under-par 68 over the testing championship links of over 7,000yds at the Tartan Tour's Carnoustie Challenge today.
Nicol had erratic outward half of one-over 37 with birdies at the third and seventh outnumbered by bogeys at the second, fourth and eighth.
But the Buchan man eliminated the mistakes after the turn and came home in four-under 31 with birdies at the 10th, 11th, 14th and 16th
The field was restricted to professionals and trainees under the age of 25 and amateurs.
The competition was sponsored by Johnstons of Elgin.
Peebles amateur Darren Howie won the second prize of £425 in a voucher form with a round of 70, after birdieing the 15th and 18th to finish one ahead of third placed Cameron Marr (Musselburgh) (£250).
Rory Tinker (Piperdam) collected the fourth prize of £125 with a 73
The women's competition was dominated by amateurs, Ailsa Summers (Carnoustie) winning with a 73, one ahead of Jasmine Mackintosh (Hazlehead) and Gabrielle MacDonald (Craigielaw).
