Stirling's Laird Shepherd  and Chloe Goadby win individual titles at British students' championships

England's Laird Shepherd (Stirling University), a +4 handicap member of Rye Golf Club, East Sussex, today added the British student men's 72-hole championship to the Scottish students' title he won at Lossiemouth a month or so ago.
Shepherd won by the runaway margin of 13 strokes with scores of 69, 68, 72 and 71 over the par-73 course at Woodhall Spa Golf Club, Lincolnshire.
Matthew Myers (St Andrews) was runner-up with scores of 72, 73, 74 and 74 for one-over 293.
Stirling's Michael Lawrie, who finished eighth on 298, had the lowest final round score of three-under 70, finishing with a haul of seven birdies in halves of 33-70.
Stirling also provided the winner of the women's title in the shape of Chloe Goadby who led at halfway but dropped back with a third-round 76. She finished the strongest, however, with a 70 for six-under 286 giving her victory by two strokes from team-mate Gemma Batty.
Key holes in the final round for Goadby were the par-5 sixth where she had an eagle 3 and the par-5 18th which she birdied in halves of 33-37.
Batty could ill afford to bogey the 15th and 16th after birdies had the sixth, ninth, 11th and 14th had given her a winning chance.
