FIVE SCOTS GO OUT AS THE

AMATEUR MATCH-PLAY STARTS
 
Five Scots were knocked out on the first day of the match-play stages at The Amateur championship over the Royal St George's Golf Club links at Sandwich, Kent.
Sandy Scott (Nairn) lost by 2 and 1 to Englishman Charlie Strickland (Ham Manor).
In other first-round ties Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) went down by 3 and 2 to Jordan Sundberg (Sandown), Craig Ross (Kirkhill) lost by one hole to Daniel O'Loughlin (Ruddington Grange) and Connor Syme (Drumoig) lost by one hole to David Langley (Castle Royle).
But former Scottish champion Robert MacIntyre, beaten finalist in the Amateur 12 months ago, stopped the rot by beating Zheng Kai Bai from China 3 and 1.
In the second round,  MacIntyre won again, this time by 3 and 2 against Australian Ben Ferguson.
Then Craig Howie (Peebles) followed him through with a 4 and 2 win over Zan Luka Stim (Slovenia) and Ryan Lumsden (Royal Wimbledon) scored a good 5 and 3 win over Irishman Robin Dawson (Tramore).
But student Chris Maclean (Balmore) ahead for most of his tie against Tom Sloman (Taunton) finally lost by one hole.

ROUND ONE
Charlie Strickland (Ham Manor) bt Sandy Scott (Nairn) 2 and 1.
Jordan Sundberg (Shanklin and Sandown) bt Euan Walker (Kilmarnock Barassie) 3 and 2.

Robert MacIntyre (Glencruitten) bt Zheng Kai Bai (China) 3 and 1.
