Johnston slides, Ross now leading Scot in South

African stroke-play

Liam Johnston (Dumfries and County) dropped from a share of the first-round lead to joint 11th place after a second-round 72, six shots worse than his opening effort, for a halfway tally of two-under 138 in the South African men's open amateur stroke-play championship at Kingswood Golf Estate.
South African Oliver Gillberg now leads on his own with rounds of 67-65 for 132, Irishmen John Ross Galbraith (67-66) and Robin Dawson (68-65) sharing second place with Brandon Cloete (67-66) from the host country.

Craig Ross (Kirkhill), pictured right, has taken over as the leading Scot in sixth place on 135 after rounds of 69 and 66.
Craig Howie (70-71) is T24 on 141 while Jamie Stewart (70-74) and Eric McIntosh (75-69) are sharing 58th place on 144.
Banchory's Sam Locke (77-69) missed the cut by one shot with a 146 total.
Another Scot eliminated was Calum Fyfe (Cawder) with 75-73 for 148.
