ST ANDREWS STUDENTS SWEEP THE

BOARD  AT LADYBANK

St Andrews University students dominated the final placings at the 11th Ladybank students' golf tournament over 54 holes at the Fife venue.
Overnight leader Bjorn Bojesen (pictured), Danish but born and bred in Belgium, won the men's title by six strokes and in the women's three-round competition, St Andrews provided the top five finishers with Marie Danielsson, half-Swedish/half-French and considers Paris to be her home,  making the running over the last two rounds to win by two strokes from her team-mates.Bojesen shot rounds of 73, 69 and 69 in great golfing weather for a two-under-par total of 211 over the par-71 lay-out.
Chris Low (Abertay Dundee), the first-round leader with a two-under 69, could not maintain that standard over the last 36 holes but a pair of 74s saw him finish second on 217.
Peter Anderson (St Andrews) finished third on 219 with three steady rouns of 73, 74 and 72.

In the women's competition, Danielsson (pictured left) had scores of 75, 73 and 78 for 13-over-par 226.
She won by two strokes from teammate Alex Hammer who had scores of 78, 77 and 73 for 228.
Third place went to Lieve Van Veggel with a better final round score (79 to 84) than St Andrews team-mate Fern Clark who also finished on 233. Van Veggel's first two rounds were 74 and 80; Clark's 73 and 76.

Start of 54-hole event at Irvine Golf Club

John Henry goes clear with a 67 in first round

of Scottish Alliance Championship

John Henry (Clydebank and District) has left the field trailing in his wake by posting a four-under-par 67 in the first round of the 54-hole Scottish Golfers' Alliance championship at Irvine Golf Club, Ayrshire today.
Henry (pictured) leads by two shots from Challenge Tour player John Duff (Newmachar), one of the most consistent scorers on the North-east Alliance circuit, on which he has already won twice in the first four weeks of the 2016-2017 season.
Henry is four strokes ahead of the pair sharing third place on par 71 - Jim  Johnston (Ayr Belleisle) and Neil Henderson (Renaissance).
Henderson has a good record in Scottish Alliance championships. He was third at Dalmahoy in 2014 and joint third with Greg McBain and John Duff behind winner Kris Nicol and runner-up Duncan Stewart at Duff House Royal 12 months ago.
Said John after his round:
" I played lovely today. Birdies at the fourth, fifth and seventh, all from hitting approaches to within 3ft of the flagstick. Also birdied the 15th and 17th.
"I had a a sore bogey at the last which was my only one! After hitting my tee shot into the right rough , hacked out into a bunker and came out of the trap to about 30ft. My par putt stayed up on the jaws!
"Looking forward to the next two days' golf."
Mark Kerr, winner of the title over his home course in 2014, was one of the No Returns today in Ayrshire.
Kris Nicol (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre), Scottish Alliance champion 12 months ago at Duff House Royal, is not defending the title.

Londoner Lumsden scores first USA win

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – Buoyed by three top-10 individual performances from Londoner Ryan Lumsden, Dylan Wu and Andrew Whalen, Northwestern University, where Luke Donald was once a student, captured its first team title since 2013 at the Milwaukee Country Club Marquette Intercollegiate.

In addition to a team victory, sophomore Lumsden, pictured right,  earned his first collegiate individual title after carding three-straight rounds at 1-under 69 for a three-under-par total of 207 over a par-780 course of 7,097yd.
There was no play-off - Lumsden shared the title with SMU's Gray Townsend.
As a team, Northwestern had a two-stroke cushion entering Monday's finale and then fired a tournament-best 4-under 276 to run away with the tournament title with a five-shot advantage at 4-under 836.
Mississippi finished second; shooting 1-over 841, while UCLA finished third at 5-over 845.
"I am really proud of the guys and the way they competed this weekend," said head coach David Inglis, a former British boys' champion from Scotland.
"We led from the start and had a strong finish today when we really needed to – it was a complete team performance. I am also delighted for Ryan to earn the individual win. He has worked so hard and improved so much. We knew it was only a matter of time."
Junior Dylan Wu fired his best score of the tournament with a 2-under 68 finale that played a large roll in NU extending its lead in the final round. Wu shot a team-best 10 birdies, including five on the final 18 holes en route to a seventh-place overall finish at 2-under 210.
Fifth-year senior Andrew Whalen had his best finish of the year, earning a 10th-place standing in the individual rankings.
Scot Alex Chalk, a freshman from Castle Douglas at Seton Hall University, tied for 50th place on 231 with scores of 75, 79 amd 77.
Another Seton Hall student, Alex McAuley from Douglas, Isle of Man, finished 59th on 232 with scores of 78, 78 and 76. There were 66 players in the field.

Leona Maguire's nine-birdie start in Windy City

DUKE UNIVERSITY NEWS RELEASE
With nine birdies in two rounds, Duke University junior Leona Maguire jumped out to a hot start Monday in the 2016 Windy City Collegiate Classic.  Maguire has an eight-under-par 136 tally with 18 holes remaining at the 6,338-yard, Glen View Golf Club in Golf, Illinois.
A native of Cavan, Ireland, Maguire opened the day with six birdies over 18 holes and led early in the first round.  She played bogey-free over her first 27 holes, before suffering a lone bogey on hole No. 2, which was her 28th hole of the day.
She carded rounds of 66 and 70 for the total of 136.
Maguire only missed one green in the first round, while hitting all 14 fairways and logging 29 putts.  She once again didn’t miss a fairway in the second round, hit 14 greens and rolled in 30 putts.  Over her first 90 holes of golf this season, Maguire has missed only two fairways.
Georgia’s Bailey Tardy leads the individual action with a nine-under-par 135, but Maguire along with Northwestern’s Hannah Kim are only one shot off the lead at eight-under-par.
Leona's twin sister Lisa turned in her second-best 36-hole ledger of her Duke career with back-to-back rounds of 74, which was tied for 37th at four-over-par 148.  In the morning, she parred the first six holes and then had a bogey on the 350-yard, par four 17th.  Maguire had bogeys on No. 2 and No. 7 to fall back to three-over-par, but closed with her first birdie on the 475-yard, par five eighth hole and a par on No. 9 to finish with a 74.
In the second nine Monday afternoon, Lisa bogeyed the first hole, but went on to register 11 straight pars.  A double-bogey on hole four dropped her back to three-over-par for the day, but Maguire bounced back with a birdie on the 503-yard, par five sixth.  After pars on the final three holes, she finished with a 74.  Maguire eatured a season-best 30 putts in the first round.

As a team, Duke led the tournament with a three-under-par score early in the first round, but two triple-bogeys and a double-bogey dropped the Blue Devils back to even-par, 288, to conclude the first 18 holes.  A three-over-par, 291, in the second round gave Duke a 36-hole ledger of 579, which was three-over-par and in sixth place.

Georgia leads the field with 12-under-par 564, while Southern California (568), Stanford (573), Northwestern (575), Florida (578), Duke (579), Purdue (581), Iowa State (583), Arizona (583) and Oklahoma State (587) round out the top 10 teams.
