Omega European Masters in Switzerland

Langasque shoots a 63 to share lead with

Bland and Green at halfway

FROM THE EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE
Romain Langasque insisted he was not felling any pressure after firing a brilliant seven-under-par 63 to take a share of the second-round lead on nine-under-par 131 at the Omega European Masters.
The 21 year old Frenchman is playing in just his fifth European Tour event at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club and was a small child when co-leaders Richard Bland and Richard Green began their careers on Tour.
The 2015 British amateur championship winner looked very much at home in the Alps, however, and after making an eagle and five birdies in the morning, it looked like he would lead on his own into the weekend before a brilliant late charge from Bland and Green.
Englishman Bland had a birdie-birdie-birdie finish for a 64 to join Langasque on 131  before another hat-trick of birdies from Green from the 13th catapulted the Australian into double figures, although he dropped a shot on the 17th and finished with a 66 for nine-under 131.
Green is playing a remarkable 18th consecutive season on the European Tour and is looking for his third win having last tasted victory at the 2010 Portugal Masters.
Bland has 392 European Tour starts to his name as he seeks a first win but Langasque - who currently leads the standings on the Challenge Tour - is not fazed by the company he is keeping.
"I'm quite sure I will be on the European Tour next year so I play without pressure," he said. "If I play well that's cool and if I play badly then it is no problem. I have nothing to lose. I have no pressure and maybe that's why I can play well.
"My hopes for the weekend? Win. I will try my best to win. Most important is to have fun all the time."
He added: "I'm really happy about this round. My driving and putting was really, really good. It is good to play well on this course. I enjoyed my round."
An eagle on the par five 14th sandwiched birdies on the 11th and 17th as Langasque turned in 31. A glorious approach to six feet on the fifth moved him ahead on his own before further gains on the drivable seventh and the par five ninth.
Bland opened his round with a bogey on the tenth but made gains on the 17th, 18th, second and fifth before his big finish.

Green was a picture of consistency with birdies on the fourth, eighth, 13th, 14th and 15th before he made his only bogey of the day on the penultimate hole.

Swede Alex Noren, Australia's Scott Hend and Canadian Richard T Lee were a shot behind the leaders, with Noren having joined Langasque with a 63.
The 34 year old Swede made birdies on the 11th, 13th, 14th, first, fifth, seventh and ninth - the highlight being a 20-foot putt on the fifth.

Lee recovered from three early bogeys by making five birdies in a row from the seventh and adding an eagle and a birdie on the 14th and 15th.

Hend made five birdies and a bogey, using his distance to take advantage of all three par fives for the second day in a row.

Spain's Alejandro Cañizares, Denmark's Joachim B Hansen, Finn Mikko Ilonen, England's Andrew Johnston and Frenchman Julien Quesne were then at seven under, with 30 players within five shots of the lead.

HANNAH McCOOK FINISHES TOP SCOT

IN BRITISH STROKE PLAY

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Hannah McCook (Grantown on Spey) was the highest finisher of the Scots-born players who made the final day of the British women's open amateur stroke play golf championship at Knock Golf Club, Belfast.
Hannah (pictured)  shot rounds of 80, 74, 72 and 77 for 16th place on 11-over-par 303. She had a double bogey 6 at the second but birdies at the fifth and 18th in her final round.
Aboyne's Shannon McWilliam was in the top 10 after a third-round morning 73 but she closed with a 79 for 304 to fall back a joint 17th position. Shannon had three double bogeys over the 72 holes or would have finished in the top 10.
Chloe Goadby (St Regulus)had scores of 76, 81, 75 and 79 for 32nd place on 311.
Gabrielle Macdonald (Craigielaw) finished T36 on 314 with scores of 81, 76, 79 and 78.
English-born but Scotland-based Gemma Batty, who lives at Moffat in the Borders, finished a creditable fifth on 296 with rounds of 77, 71, 74 and 74 despite a double bogey 6 at the 13th in her final round.

Sophie Lamb wins stroke-play title by two

shots from Chloe Williams in Belfast

FROM THE LGU WEBSITE
Sophie Lamb, an 18-year-old Lancashire lass and member of Clitheroe Golf Club, scored the biggest win of her fledgling career today.
Sophie is the 2016 British Women's Open Amateur Stroke-play Champion after coming to the front for the first time over the final round of the 72-hole tournament at Knock Golf Club, Belfast.
Sophie, who helped England win the Home Internationals title at Conwy, North Wales last month, has been knocking on the door of a big win as an individual and finally it opened for her.
Lamb shot rounds of 77, 68, 72 and 74 for a one-under-par total of 291.

Lamb had her dad, Phil, on the bag as her caddie this week and added: “I couldn’t have done it without him.”
But her mum, Carina, had to wait for the news that her daughter had won her first major championship – she was on a plane to Spain. “We’ll have to ring her when she lands!” added Lamb.
The teenager moved steadily through the field after a first round of four-over 77, which left her six shots off the pace. “I struggled a bit off the tee on the first day and you can’t do that on this course,” she said.
She came straight back with five-under 68 – six birdies and just one bogey – to put herself firmly in contention.
Runner-up was GB and I international Chloe Williams (Wrexham) with scores of 71, 77, 75 and 70 for one-over 293.
Alessia Nobilio, the 14-year-old Italian who had led the field through the second and third rounds, faded as the wind rose for the final round. She had scores of 73, 71, 71 and 70 for 294 and shared third place with Georgia Price (Bude and North Cornwall), 73, 72, 78 and 71.

But the Italian coach thought Alessia was more affected by the pressure of leading the tournament into the last round. At 14 years of age, she did not have the experience to cope with the situation.
Her day will come.
Sophie Lamb started the final day one shot behind the leader, Alessia Nobilio, after a second-round 68 which stood up as the lowest round of the tournament.
Nobilio's two-under-par 71 in the third round increased her lead to two shots with Lamb taking 72.
There was no hint at that stage that the Italian girl, so steady to that point, was about to unravel at the conditions became tougher.
But it soone became apparent that the youngster from Milan, winner of the Belgian girls' international stroke play championship after being a beaten semi-finalist in the Girls' British Championship at Harlech, had reached the end of her tether.
She took 40 shots to the turn in the final round and was overtaken by Lamb who was out in 37.
Sophie had a bad start to the inward half with a bogey at the 10th and a double bogey 6 at the 12th but she steadied up with three birdies over the closing holes - a 2 at the short 12th, a 4 at the par-5 14th and a 3 at the par-4 18th.
A bogey at the 15th made little difference in the final analysis.
Chloe Williams, who had shared the first-round lead with a 71, returned to her best form with a closing 70, the lowest score of the final round. The Welsh player birdied the second, third, sixth, seventh and 10th in halves of 34-36. Bogeys at the first and 18th she took in her stride.
Nobilio finished with a 79 (40-39), a gound which had no birdies, only six bogeys as she finished on two-over 294.
Young Georgia Price matched that with her best round of the four, a 71, despite a double bogey 6 at the second and another shot dropped at the fifth.
The Cornwall player slipped up a gear with birdies at the seventh, 10th, 11th, 13th, 16th and 17th, offsetting a bogey at the 15th.
Price had six birdies over her last 12 holes. She had three double bogeys over the four rounds. Six shots dropped there cost her the championship. Even three bogeys instead of three doubles at these holes would have got her into a play-off with Sophie Lamb.
English-born but Scotland-based Gemma Batty (Moffat) finished fifth on 296 with a pair of 74s on the final day. She had 2s at the 12th and 16th in her closing round, which cancelled out a double bogey 6 at the 13th.
The highest placed Irish player was Annabel Wilson (Lurgan) who finished sixth on 297 with a final round of 75 which had contrasted halves of 34 out and 41 in. After birdies at the fourth, fifth and eighth, she had bogeys at the 11th and 13th, a double bogey 5 at the short 16th and a bogey at the last.
There were two Italisn in the top seven finishers, Alessia Cristin Avanzo finishing seventh on 298.
The last Italian to win this championship was Anna Rossi in 2006. This was Italian players' best performance in the tournament since then.

Hole in one helps Maw win £10,000 prize

NEWS RELEASE FROM NICK TEALE
James Maw won the COBRA PUMA GOLF Championship by two strokes on -16 after a final-round which included a hole in one at Hawkstone Park Golf Club.
The Sheffield golfer began the last 18 as one of four players tied for the lead on ten under, but got off to a flier with an ace at the 2nd on the par-71 Championship Course.
He stumbled with a bogey at the fifth but put together an outstanding run of five birdies in six holes from the 10th, with some championship-winning putting giving him distance from the field.
By the time Maw (Rockliffe Hall; 62, 70, 65) played the last he was two strokes clear of Curtis Griffiths (Wentworth; 69, 63, 67) and three better than playing partner Chris Lloyd (The Kendleshire; 66, 66, 68).
“I feel very happy, it was about time I won one,” said Maw, who takes home £10,000 along with a brand new Motocaddy S1 Lithium trolley, Bushnell Tour X Range Finder and Bolle Sunglasses.
“It was one of those days. When I had the hole in one at the second I thought maybe it was my day, and holing putts from everywhere helps as well.
“I putted well for the nine under first round, on Thursday I struggled a little bit in the afternoon and then today I putted very well. I was very aggressive, you can be here and some of the scores you have seen this week do show that. If you can putt well, you’ll do well.
“I looked at the leaderboards at every opportunity. I thought somebody might have caught up by the time I got to the 9th so it was nice to see they hadn’t and I could have a go.
“I have had enough bad luck to against me in final round situations and you do need a little bit of luck on your side.”
Maw climbs to sixth on the Race To Desert Springs Order of Merit, from which the top five at the end of the season earn a Challenge Tour card. Griffiths climbs to second with his £6,000 runners-up prize, while Billy Hemstock (Teignmouth Golf Club) maintained his top-five position after finishing tied for fifth on ten under at Hawkstone Park.
Matthew Cort (Beedles Lake Golf Club), Greg Payne (Chobham GC / MindSet4Golf) also consolidated their standings on the tour money list, finishing among those tied ninth on eight under par.
Highlights of the COBRA PUMA GOLF Championship will air on Sky Sports on Tuesday, September 13. The next HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour event is the Glenfarclas Open at Mar Hall in Glasgow, which begins on Wednesday, September 7.

Chella Choi clickety-clicks to lead LPGA Tour event at Whistle Bear GC

FROM THE LPGA TOUR WEBSITE
Chella Choi fired a 6-under 66 on Thursday to take a one-shot lead heading into the second round at the Manulife LPGA Classic. Choi, who had one bogey on a near-perfect day for golf at Whistle Bear Golf Club, leads In Gee Chun, Dani Holmqvist, Brittany Lang and Azahara Munoz.
Choi Scorecard Rd1Choi, who won the Marathon Classic  in 2015, is looking for her second victory on the LPGA Tour. The South Korea native said she felt good  and had been working on her driver recently. Choi is ranked 18th on Tour in driving accuracy (75.56%) and 90th in average driving distance (252.27).
“Pretty good,” said Choi. “A lot of wind today, but my game is good and driving is good, shot was good, so I made a lot of birdies.”
She’s coming off a top-10 finish of T-7 at last week’s Canadian Pacific Women’s Open and attributes her play on the hard work she put in the past several weeks.
“I worked really hard the last three weeks,” said Choi. “So I want to hit straight and strong my drive four days, so I focus on just my driving four days strong drive. So I don’t know. First good, so that’s why my driving is better, so game is more easier than before.”
Defending champ Suzann Pettersen (69) sits in a tie for 17th alongside Alena Sharp and Maude-Aimee Leblanc, the low Canadians.
