Henry blows six-shot lead - Currie wins Scottish Alliance title for 2nd time in four years

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
The stunning news from the third and final round of the Scottish Golfers' Alliance championship at Irvine Golf Club is that John Henry (Clydebank and District), leading by six strokes after 36 holes, failed to win the title
"I had a shocker today - an 84 with six lost balls," said Henry who finished fourth.
The winner, repeating his Alliance championship success at Nairn Dunbar in 2013, was Caldwell tour pro Chris Currie who shot 76, 73 and 69 for five-over-par 218 and collected the top pro pay-out of £750 and The Scotsman Challenge Trophy.
John Duff (Newmachar) and Neil Henderson (Renaissance) ( 71, 75 and 73) finished second on 219. Henderson's better third round earned him official second place and £375. Duff (69, 75 and 75) earned £275.
Henry earned £175 for finishing fourth on 222 with rounds of 67, 71 and 84.
Johnny Mullaney (Dundonald) and Sean Lawrie (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) finished fifth and sixth respectively although both totalled 224.
Jim Johnston (Ayr Belleisle) finished as the leading amateur on 224 with rounds of 71, 73 and 80. He won the Clydesdale Bank Quaich.
Stewart Finnie (Royal Aberdeen) earned the Caldwell Trophy as the leading senior, decided over the first 36 holes.
S Coyle (Cathkin Braes), who had a scratch aggregate of 228, won the leading handicap award for his 54-hole net total of 222.
West won the team award, the Mountbatten Cup, with the best six-man aggregate, no more than three pros' scores + three amateurs.
