Scots trailing after first round of Duke of York

Young Champions' tournament

Scotland's four representative have lost touch with the leaders after only one round of The Duke of York Young Champions' 54-hole tournament at Royal Birkdale Golf Club, Lancashire.
Norwegian Markus Braadlie (Norway), winner of last year's European Young Masters title, leads the international field by two strokes with an opening round of three-under-par 69.
Irish U18 girls champion Julie McCarthy held her own with the boys, returning a 71 to be joint second.
The best placed Scots are Jamie Stewart (Old Ranfurly) and Hazel MacGarvie on six-over 78, sharing 25th place in a field of 49.
Scottish U18 boys' champion Eric McIntosh (Bruntsfield Links) had a 79 for joint 28th place while Aboyne's Shannon McWilliam had a disappointing round of nine-over 81 for joint 34th place.
