Aussie Hend leads KLM Open into final day

FROM THE EUROPEAN TOUR WEBSITE
Scott Hend will take the lead into the final round of a European Tour event for the second week in a row after an excellent 64 at the KLM Open today.
The Australian began the third round three shots off the summit and when he started the day with a bogey on the second, he was moving away from the leading pack.
He responded with six birdies and an eagle to get to 14 under and open up a one-shot lead over Nino Bertasio, who had been in front throughout the closing stages.
The Italian had held a two-shot lead as he stood on the 18th tee but a closing birdie from Hend coupled with his own double-bogey meant the 28 year old will be playing catch up at The Dutch on Sunday.

Hend entered the final round of last week's Omega European Masters with a one-shot lead but lost in a play-off to Alex Noren and will hope to go one better as he searches for a second win of the season.
It has been an excellent 2016 for the 43 year old who won the True Thailand Classic Presented by Chang in March and went on to represent his country at the Olympic Men's Golf Competition.
"The swing felt a little bit off out there today but I managed to hang in there and just stay patient and then I started hitting some really nice shots and that presented me with the opportunity to make some putts," he said.
"It was just all about hanging in there today, I wasn't really on top of it but I got the most out of it that I could."

Bertasio will not be his only competition on the final day, with English trio Ben Evans, David Horsey and Richard Bland - who will also go out in the final group for the second week running - at 11 under alongside local favourite Joost Luiten.
South African Brandon Stone fired a brilliant course-record 63 to sit a further shot back along with Tommy Fleetwood, Simon Khan and Bernd Wiesberger.
Following his early bogey, Hend bounced back with birdies on the third, fifth, sixth and eighth but he could not keep pace with Bertasio who was putting together a brilliant round.
The rookie birdied the fourth for the third time this week and then put his approach on the sixth to 12 feet for an eagle before holing a 30-footer on the tenth and getting up and down for birdie on the par five 13th.

Hend put his foot down in the closing stages as he made it three birdies from three at the 14th and put his approach to four feet on the 15th for an eagle of his own, but Bertasio made a birdie on the par five.

Hend then got on the green in two for a closing birdie before Bertasio - playing in the group behind - put his tee-shot in the water and then found two bunkers to register a seven.
Luiten - the 2013 champion - birdied the first and put his tee-shot on the par three eighth to two feet but after 51 holes without a blemish, he made his first bogey of the week after three-putting the 16th. A brilliant two-putt on the last then gave him a closing birdie and sent the home crowd away happy.
Bland had a birdie-birdie finish and a single bogey in his 66, while Evans also finished with two gains in a 68 and Horsey registered eight birdies and four bogeys.

Stone's low round of the week contained eight birdies, while Austrian Wiesberger registered a 71, England's Fleetwood a 69 and countryman Khan a 68
