Malcolm Pennycott sets pace with a 67

at Leven Gold Medal

By Colin Farquharson
Royal Burgess Society member Malcolm Pennycott, originally from Arran, made the early running in the Leven Gold Medal 72-hole Order of Merit tournament at the Fife links today.
He shot a four-under-par 67 with birdies at the second, third, eighth, 11th, 12th and 13th in halves of 32 and 35. He had two bogeys - at the first and 10th.
Snapping at his heels are Alasdair MacDougall (St Andrews New), twice winner of the Tennant Cup, another four-round Order of Merit counter, and Clive MacLean (Balmore) with 68 apiece.
MacDougall had halves of 33-35 while MacLean saddled himself with a double bogey 6 which took the shine off a six-birdie scorecard of 36-33.
Euan McIntosh (Turnhouse) had four birdies in a row after the turn in returning a 69.
