The Penny(cott) drops - from 67 to 77, and

Lawrence is new leader at Leven Gold Medal

First-round leader Malcolm Pennycott (Royal Burgess) from Arran went from the sublime (a four-under-par 67) to the almost ridiculous (a six-over 77) to tumble down the halfway leaderboard at the Leven Gold Medal 72-hole Scottish Golf Order of Merit tournament organised by the Leven Golfing Society.
Pennycott had seven bogeys before, to cap it all, finishing his second round with a double bogey 6. Good job he had three birdies or he would not have broken 80 second time round.
Angus Carrick (Douglas Park), who tagged on a 67 to his opening 69, took over the lead  with a six-under-tally of 136 before he was relegated to second place by one of the last men to finish their second rounds - Dan Lawrence (Ballumbie Castle).
Dan shot a brilliant second round of seven-under 64, which included a splendid outward half over 29 with birdies at the first, second, third, seventh and eighth.
His birdie fest continued after the turn with further gains at the 12th, 13th and 14th before he came back to earth with a bogey 4 at the short 15th, the only  blemish on his card which was a six-shot improvement on his morning round.
Highlander Kyle Godsman, based at Hopeman but a member of Moray Golf Club in Lossiemouth, has scored 69 and 68 for third place on 137.
Former Scottish amateur champion Barry Hume (Haggs Castle) usually plays well over the Leven Links but the sparkle was missing today as he shot 70-73 for 143, nine off the pace with 36 holes to play.
Only those with 36-hole totals of 149 and better qualified for Sunday's two rounds.
