Americans to play 10 courses in nine days next month

World No 1 amateur in California university's

party for whistle-stop tour of Scottish links

By COLIN FARQUHARSON

World No. 1 amateur Maverick McNealy, pictured right,  will be the star player in the Stanford University, California golf team who will play 10 courses on a nine-day whistle-stop tour of Scottish links next month.
"Everyone involved in the program is really excited to take a tour to Scotland, the birthplace of our sport," said Conrad Ray, pictured right,

Stanford's Director of Men's Golf.
"This is a once-in-a-lifetime type of trip for our student athletes and the history and culture of Scotland will be special to experience. Many of the courses on our tour have hosted historical and major events, and the camaraderie that our team and donors will be able to build while playing 10 courses in nine days will be invaluable for the future.
"The travel team at Connoisseur Golf have been first class to work with."
The Stanford University tour party will be 29-strong although the have only eight players on their golf roster. On the US college golf circuit, universities are limited to five players for team score purposes. They can field others playing as individuals, i.e. their scores do not count for the team's total.
