By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Greig Kennedy (Hazlehead) scored the upset win of the morning when he ousted Matthew Clark (Kilmacolm), ranked 481 in the world, by 4 and 2.
Another good win by a local was that of young Royal Aberdeen member Craig Leith over the reigning Scottish boys' champion, Eric McIntosh (Bruntsfield Links) by 4 and 3.
Seeded teenager Sandy Scott (Nairn) marches on, his second-round win by a 7 and 5 margin.
Top seed and defending champion Robert MacIntyre  (Glencruitten) had to work hard for a one-hole win oer Calum Hill (Aberdour). The left-hander from Oban had been two up after 10.
Aberdeen Links champion Barry Reid (Caledonian) is through to the third round with a 3 and 2 win over Alan Sutherland (Cupar).
Scottish youths champion Stephen Roger (Cruden Bay) had a comfortable second-round 5 and 4 win over Stirling graduate Angus Carrick (Douglas Park) whose father David won the Scottish amateur championship of 1985 at Southerness.
Portlethen's Clark Brechin had a win that topped Greig Kennedy's achievement. Brechin KO'd World No 243 Liam Johnston (Dumfries and Co) by 2 and 1.
Calum Fyfe (Cawder), World No. 279, was beaten on the 18th green by Craig Morrison (Haggs Castle).
What a marvellous afternoon for North and North-east players, topped by Andrew Burgess (Nairn), pictured right, scoring a 3 and 1 victory over the seeded Craig Ross (Kirkhill) who is No. 65 in the World Rankings.
Steven Buchan (Royal Aberdeen) bowled over George Burns (Williamwood) who, 12 months ago, KOd top seed Grant Forrest from the championship. Buchan won 2 and 1.
Another Royal Aberdeen player, Fintan McKenna had an excellent 2 and 1 win over Australian Ben Ferguson, who has Scottish parents and has been selected to play for Scotland in the upcoming boys' internationals.
Seeded Barry Hume (Haggs Castle), a former Scottish amateur champion before his spell as a professional, advanced to the last 32 with a 2 and 1 win over Kieran Cantley (Liberton).
Another top seed, Connor Syme (Drumoig), was a 4 and 2 winner over Robert Watson (Muckhart) but the seeded Jamie Savage (Cawder) got dusted down 6 and 4 by Calum Hill, the Tantallon one, not the Calum Hill from Aberdour (there are two of them in the field).
Craig Howie, the seed from Peebles, knocked off one of the North and North-east challengers, beatin Calum Bruce (Duff House Royal) by 4 and 3.
"Old Man" McIntosh, a former Scottish assistants champion in the 1990s and reinstated as an amateur fairly recently, continues the great comeback which has so far earned the 47-year-old a place in the Scotland team for the Home Internationals. He beat Eamon Bradley (Mt Ellen), who plays on the US college circuit, by 2 and 1.
Youths champion Stephen Roger's run was ended in the third round by Andrew Gibson. The Blairgowrie player won by 2 and 1 after being two up at the turn.
Top seed MacIntyre made it through to the last 32 with another hard-working 2 and 1 win over Dalgleish.
Sandy Scott, pictured left, has yet to play the last few holes. In the third round he had another big win, by 5 and 4 over McMehen.
Aberdeen Links champion Barry Reid bowed out, beaten 2 and 1 by the up and coming Jamie Stewart.
A generally good day for the North and North-east players ended on a high note when young Ben Murray came back from two down after 10 to win his match by two holes against K Reid
of Balmore.
We are down to the last 32 now and the first three ties off from 8am Thursday feature North-east men playing each other and Mark  Halliday, one of three Royal Aberdeen players in the same quarter of the draw, taking on the seeded former champion, Barry Hume at 8.24.
