Sandy Scott a creditable T6 behind 17-year-old

Nairn teenager Sandy Scott finished a creditable tied sixth in the Scottish open amateur stroke play golf championship, sponsored by Carrick Neill, at Gullane Golf Club over the weekend.

Scott shot rounds of 69, 66, 69 and 72 for an eight-under-par total of 276.

Jeff Wright (Forres) failed to survive the halfway cut.

Cameron John, a 17-year-old who arrived in Britain last week as a member of a 14-strong Australian squad, won the title with rounds of 71, 67, 63 and 68 for 15-under-par 269.

That brilliant third round of 63 was the score that separated the "boy" from the men.

Cameron, pictured right by Joyce Hunnam, who sounds as though he has some Scottish blood in his veins, won by four strokes from Irishman Stuart Grehan and Craigielaw's Grant Forrest with Craig Howie fourth and Connor Syme fifth on 274 and 275 respectively.

The bad news for Grant Forrest and Co is that Master John from Down Under will be testing them again in the St Andrews Links Trophy 72-holer next weekend.
