David Law's nerves of steel - needed birdie 2 at last hole to beat the cut - and he got it!

David Law, after starting  at the 10th, birdied the last hole he played - the par-3 ninth - to beat the halfway cut on the limit mark of three-under-par 141 in the Red Sea Egyptian Classic at Sokhna Golf Club, Suez today.

The Aberdonian had earlier bogeyed the long 13th, the long third, the fifth and the seventh to forfeit the top 16 position he held overnight. 

Law is now on the tied 54th mark alongside Ellon's Ross Cameron who has also had rounds of 68 and 73.

Four Scots - Ross Kellett (143), Duncan Stewart (144), Jack Doherty (149) and Paul Shields (153) - missed the cut but Kirkcaldy's Peter Whiteford, pictured left, is only four shots behind leader Jordan Smith, a former Walker Cup player from Wiltshire,  in joint third place after rounds of 68 and 67 for nine-under 135.

Whiteford covered his last 13 holes in seven under par after bogeying the first, second and fifth. He had seven birdies in all.

Scott Henry is the second best Scot on 137 after rounds of 69 and 68. He birdied the 13th, 14th, 16th and 17th and had six birdies in all.

 Harrold's hole in one at Red Sea Egyptian 

Challenge helps him get round in 66

William Harrold hit a hole-in-one during one of the best rounds of day two at the Red Sea Egyptian Challenge
The Englishman aced the par three ninth hole at Sokhna Golf Club, Suez on his way to a six under par 66 that propelled him up the leaderboard in the European Challenge Tour event.
The 27 year old holed out on the 197 yard par-3 ninth, sweetly striking a six iron for the third hole-in-one of his career.
After scoring four birdies on the back nine to add to his ace, the Norfolk-based player was delighted with his efforts in the Egyptian sun.
“This one was awesome,” he said. “I just hit a smooth six iron and it was perfect. If you look at my scorecard I was grinding out there after hitting eight pars in a row through the first eight holes, and I had just missed a short putt for birdie on the eighth.
“Then it was weird because you just do not know when this sort of thing is going to happen. It felt like it was pretty good, the swing itself wasn’t that great, but the contact was absolutely perfect and I just said ‘go in’ when it hit the ground and it went in.
“I just kept watching it until it disappeared and you just don’t know what to do. I jumped in the air and started high-fiving everybody but then when I picked it out of the hole I realised I still had one more to go.”
During another morning of perfect conditions on the Egyptian coast, first round leader Jordan Smith continued his good form by shooting a four under par 68 to move to 13 under par at the halfway stage.
