Under-12s can join Peterhead Golf Club free of

charge under junior members' incentive

FROM THE BUCHAN OBSERVER NEWSPAPER
Peterhead Golf Club has waived the fees for under-12 years junior members this year in a bid to attract more youngsters to the club.

The Buchan club will have a number of incentives during 2016 to try to encourage junior members to take up the sport.

Michael Allardyce, the new convener for juniors at Peterhead Golf Club, said: “Over the last five years we have noticed a big decline in junior memberships. One of the incentives we thought of would be to waive the under 12s fees for a year and hopefully we can get the juniors back in.”
As well as waiving the fees the club is also hosting a number of events all year round to try and appeal to younger golfers.
It is holding winter leagues and nine and 18-hole competitions for people of all abilities throughout the year.
On July 3 the Paul Lawrie Foundation will hold an  event on the par 3 nine-hole course.
The flag event will see coaches and trainers selected by Paul Lawrie’s Foundation come to Peterhead Golf Club and work with the young members.
Peterhead Golf club is home to the 18th oldest golf course in the world and is an active supporter of ClubGolf, which has the full backing of the Scottish Golf Union, Sport Scotland and Paul Lawrie Golf Foundation.
ClubGolf was established to introduce more juniors to the game and to have a structured development programme in place for all skill levels.
Mr Allardyce says that he wants to encourage juniors into the game at a younger age because this generally means they will continue to play golf into their teenage years.
He also encourages teaming up and supporting partnerships with ClubGolf and the Paul Lawrie Golf Foundation as participation with organised coaching is a good way to bring the best out of aspiring young players and to have some fun along the way.
If anyone wants to become a member they can visit Peterhead Golf Club to pick up a membership form or find out more information on www.peterheadgolfclub.co.uk
