Late bogeys cost Greig Hutcheon victory on

Algarve, tied 2nd behind winner Tiago Cruz

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
Bogeys at the 16th and 17th in a closing round of four-under 68 cost Tartan Tour No 1 Greig Hutcheon (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) victory in the Algarve Pro Tour 36-hole tournament at Palmares today.
The Aberdeen man had six birdies to lead the field into the closing holes  and looked set to win the 2,000 euros first prize until he had these late back-to-back bogeys.
Hutch did birdie the 18th but Portugal's Tiago Cruz had posted rounds of 66 and 67 for an 11-under par final total of 133.
Greig, who had shared the first-round lead with a 66, finished joint second, one shot behind Cruz, with England's Gary Hurley (68-66).
Hutcheon and Hurley earned 1,1500 euros each.
Jordon McColl (Kingsbarns Pro Academy) tied for 13th place on three-under par 141 and earned 325 euros for rounds of 75 and 66.
McColl had seven birdies in his second round. He covered his last 12 holes in six under par.
Scott Henderson (Kings Links Golf Centre) tied with James Steven on 145 for 25th place. Henderson, who was two over par for his last 10 holes, scored 73-72, Steven 72-73. Both men outside the prize list which paid out to the leading 15 finishers.

Greig Hutcheon told Scottishgolfview.com by Email:

"Found a fairway bunker at 16 and my putt to save par hung on the lip but stayed above ground. At the 17th, I had a poorish tee shot and three putts from 30ft.
"Birdie at last but not enough. Needed an eagle to win. But if you had told me I would shoot 10 under par for 36 holes after a long cold winter, I would have been delighted!
"Great course Palmares. No pushover, so very pleased with first performance."
