to Meldrum House from July 12 to 14

By COLIN FARQUHARSON
This summer's second staging of the Aberdeen Senior Masters will again be hosted by Meldrum House Golf Club, Oldmeldrum at the slightly earlier dates of July 12 to 14 during the same week as the Open championship at Royal Troon.
The tournament, sponsored by Thistle Windows and Conservatories, Meldrum House Hotel and The Gym Rental Company and open to professionals and Category 1 amateurs aged 48 and over, is being extended to 54 holes. There will be no cut and the £50,000 prize fund has been boosted from last year's £35,000 when the winner received £6,000 and the runner-up £4,000
The field will be limited to 90 players.
The tournament is the brainchild of active senior competitor, Nick Robson who is the chief executive ofThistle Windows and Conservatories.
Last year, there was an all-Spanish play-off for the title between Miguel Angel Martin and Santiago Luna with Martin winning at the first extra hole. They had tied on five-under-par 135 at the end of the regulation 36 holes.
The leading amateur will win a voucher to the value of £500.
Entry fee for professionals is £250 and for amateurs £150.
Apart from the scratch prizelist there will be 1-2-3 awards for the lowest totals achieved by a player subtracting his age from his three-round aggregate.
The tournament is part of the Senior Golf Circuit schedule, which differs from the European Senior Tour in that it has a lower minimum age. The Senior Golf Circuit, which is run by Scot David James, also has events all over Europe.
Its most recent, the Monte Rei Classic, was played in Portugal over the weekend.
