Lanarkshire beat Ayrshire at home

Lanarkshire sneaked a 4.5-3.5 victory over Ayrshire yesterday at Lanark in the West of Scotland Inter County League. Ayrshire, who started the campaign with three victories, looked like adding a fourth until a dramatic swing in fortune in the last two holes of the final three matches.
Walker Cup star Jack McDonald gave Ayrshire the perfect start with a narrow 2 and 1 win over Lanarkshire number one Steven Rennie  and another early win for Steven Wallace put Ayrshire in front.
However last-hole wins for Kenny Gallacher and Andy Steven plus David Cardwell winning the last two holes put Lanarkshire in the winners’ enclosure.

However with Renfrewshire beating Dumbartonshire 6-2 away in the league it means next week’s match between Renfrewshire and Ayrshire at Bonnyton Golf club will be a league decider with a draw suiting Renfrewshire.

Results:

Sreven Rennie (Drumpellier)  lost to Jack McDonald  (Kilarnock Barassie) 2 and 1.
Kenny Gallacher (East Kilbride) bt  Tommy McInally (Loudon) 1 hole.

Dominic Dougan  (Airdrie)  lost to Steven Wallace  (Prestwick St Cuthberts) 3 and 2.
Andrew Steven (Easter Moffat) bt Stuart Robin  (Prestwick St Cuthberts) 1 hole.

Mark O’Donnell  (Hamilton) bt Scott  Brown (Turnberry) 3 and 2.
Graeme Rodger ()Hamilton) bt Malcolm Pennycott (Whiting Bay. Arran) 5 and 4.

David Cardwell (Hamilton) halved with    Gordon Boyle      (Turnberry)

Ross Hinshelwood (East Kilbride) lost to  John  Shanks (Irvine)  5 and 3.

Result:     Lanarkshire    4.5    Ayrshire  3.5

Lanarkshire Youth team recorded a 5.5-2.5 victory at Brunston Castle meaning a win for them in their final match at Shotts next week will make them Youth Champions.
