Scotland star Syme heads SE District Open field

FROM THE LOTHIANS GOLF ASSOCIATION WEBSITE
Scotland star Connor Syme, pictured, heads the field for the South East District Open at Turnhouse this weekend.
The Drumoig youngster played his part in the highlight of the 2015 season for Scottish amateur golf - victory in the European Team Championship in Sweden.
Syme was also in Scotland's side for the Home Internationals at Royal Portrush earlier this month, as was another player in the Turnhouse line-up - Kilmacolm's Matt Clark.
Others teeing up in the final counting event for this season's SGU Order of Merit include 2013 Scottish Amateur champion Zander Culverwell (Dunbar).
The field for the 72-hole tournament also includes recent Scottish internationals in Scott Gibson (Southerness) and Jamie Savage (Cawder).
Culverwell spearheads a sizeable Lothians contingent that also includes his Dunbar clubmate and recently crowned Champion of Champions, Stephen Simants.
Several Turnhouse players will be aiming to make the most of local knowledge, including Steven Armstrong, Lewis Bain and Jack McVey.
Former winners include Ronnie Shade, George Macgregor, Gordon Sherry and Stuart Wilson.
Barassie's Jack McDonald, who has just been picked to represent Great Britain and Ireland in the forthcoming Walker Cup at Royal Lytham, lifted the title two years ago at West Linton.
Last year's winner at Bruntsfield Links was Dunbar's Danny Kay, who has since moved into the paid ranks.
