Jamieson and Lee leading Scots on 139 - six off the pace

FLAWLESS FITZPATRICK HITS FRONT IN CZECH MASTERS

EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Rising star Matthew Fitzpatrick holed a 15ft birdie putt on his final hole for a share of the lead at the halfway mark of the D+D REAL Czech Masters today.
The Englishman, who turns 21 next Tuesday, also sank a 30ft eagle putt on the 12th hole in his five under par second round of 67 to move to 11 under par for the tournament, a total which was match by Sweden’s Pelle Edberg, who also birdied his final hole for a round of 67.
It was Fitzpatrick’s second consecutive bogey-free round at Albatross Golf Resort as he bids for a maiden European Tour title, having finished runner up to fellow Sheffield native Danny Willett in last month’s Omega European Masters in Switzerland.
The former US Amateur Champion and Edberg are one shot clear of Belgian Thomas Pieters, who signed for round of 68 to move to ten under par, while English pair Robert Dinwiddie (67) and Sam Hutsby (70) and Denmark’s Thorbjørn Olesen share fourth position on eight under par, three shots behind the leading pair.
Key player quotes
Matthew Fitzpatrick – 67 (-11 total)
“It was very consistent today. I played nicely and hit a lot of greens again which is always important to keep making pars and then take your chances when you have them. I gave myself a few out there. I got a bit frustrated in the middle of the round when I wasn’t holing any putts. I missed a few chances but picked it up on the back nine.
“The putt on 18th was a nice way to finish with a birdie, to pick up one more and move to the top.  And the eagle on 12 was great. It nice seven wood in there to about 30ft and the hole for eagle. I’m looking forward to the weekend now. It’s another chance to put myself in contention for Sunday.
“I took a lot from contending in Crans. It was a great week for me. I don’t really know how to explain it but I gained a lot of experience from playing with Danny (Willett). I know him quite well. He is top 30 in the world, so obviously one of the best players around.”
Pelle Edberg – 67 (-11 total)
“Like yesterday I putted really well. I holed a lot of putts and it was good off the tee and had some nice irons, so it added up to a good score. I talked to a few guys this morning and they said there was no wind so there was some good scores out there, so we got a bit nervous when it picked up on the front nine, but it died down on the back nine.
“I couldn’t be in a better position. I’m feeling pretty good and feeling comfortable about most parts of my game. I feel confident so I want to see how well I can do this week. In the past if I’ve had a good week, it normally stays for a couple of weeks, and that is what has happened again.”
Thomas Pieters – 68 (-10 total)
“I played another solid day. I hit it well off the tee. I gave myself a lot of opportunities. The wind got up on the back nine. I played a bunch of holes downwind when it got up, so that was nice. But it definitely was a lot tougher out there. Seven and eight were both tough so I got good pars there.
“The course suits me. Some of these tee shots really suit my eye. I’m striking the ball well off the tee which helps. I made a couple of stupid bogeys but I hit it really well again off the tee. Some of the wedges I hit really close, which gave me chances for birdies and I rolled in a few putts.
“You’ve got to patient on Friday and Saturday and just get into contention. I just tried to give myself plenty of opportunities and hopefully I can have a good weekend. We all practise hard to be here and I’ve worked hard the last few weeks, so it is nice to see a low score on there.”
