Made in Denmark European Tour report and scoreboard

Paul Lawrie's 65 puts him in 3rd place.

David Horsey opened with an eight under par 63 to set the pace in the first round of the highly anticipated second edition of Made in Denmark.
The Englishman carded seven birdies, an eagle and a bogey to lead by one shot from Welshman Oliver Farr at Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort, where more than 15,000 spectators created the sort of electric atmosphere that helped make the tournament such a huge success on its debut last year.
Paul Lawrie was another shot back on six under, while European Ryder Cup Captain Darren Clarke and home favourite Thomas Bjørn – playing together for the first two rounds – both signed for 69.
Another Danish idol, Søren Kjeldsen, described it as the best day he has ever had on a golf course, acknowledging the enormous crowds around the 16th green holding up red flags bearing ‘SK 500’ in recognition of his reaching 500 European Tour appearances last week.
The 40 year old delighted the masses by knocking his tee shot to within a few inches, and tapped in for birdie to vociferous support.
Quotes
David Horsey
“It’s always fabulous to get off to a start like that. I holed my third shot on the 11th from 130 yards to make eagle, then I had five birdies in a row from the 13th, so it was a very good first nine. The magic number crept into my head going down the fourth – my 13th – and I wouldn’t say it affected me too much but I three-putted, then made a mess of the next hole. After that it was just about getting back to my strategy and finishing strongly, and I managed to do that. I’m pleased with how I handled myself in that situation. You don’t get many opportunities to shoot 59, so I can probably be excused for letting it creep in.”
Oliver Farr
“It was fantastic. The course wasn’t for the taking – you had to hit a lot of good shots and good putts, and I did that. It’s what we practise for – to hit good shots in close – and I did that today. I rode the wave. It was one of those days where everything seemed to click. I’ve just had a three-week spell off – my longest break since Christmas – and it has really refreshed things.”
Paul Lawrie
It was decent. The course is lovely and in fabulous condition. The greens are rolling pure and I holed some nice putts. I have been known to have a wee moan about my putting, but recently it’s been great. I’ve got a new putter from Caledonia Putters which has a little bit firmer grooves, and I’m rolling the ball as well as I’ve ever rolled it. This week is really good. The organisation is brilliant and there are lots of spectators – it’s just what you want.”

Søren Kjeldsen
“I’ve never been as emotional on a golf course as that. It was incredible to feel the warmth from the people who all wanted me to do well. You can’t really describe it. I didn’t realise they were going to do anything like that, but they made it the best day I’ve ever had on a golf course. There is a lot of nervous energy, starting a week like this. I came into the event with a lot more confidence than I did 12 months ago, but there’s still a lot of nervousness there and I made a bit of a stumbling start. Then I reached 16 and everything started to happen. That turned my round around, because after that it was good.”
