Fenwick, one off lead, is chasing £10,000 prize

Dunbar's Neil Fenwick is gunning for the biggest prize of his career so far, the £10,000 that goes to the winner of a PGA EuroPro event, at Longhirst Hall, near Morpeth in the north-east of England, writes Colin Farquharson

Fenwick, pictured,  has had a pair of three-under-par 69s for 138 and is one shot behind the leader, Christopher Evans (Wishaw Golf and Country Club, Sutton Coldfield) (69-68).
The ultra-consistent Fenwick has yet to miss a cut this season  His second round didn’t start to plan with a double bogey at the 1st but he recovered courtesy of an eagle at the 6th. A bogey at 7 followed but four birdies on the back nine saw him to a second-consecutive 69.
Connor was denied a share of the lead by a bogey at 17, having recovered after also starting with a double bogey. He broke par at 2, 4, 9 and 11 but also bogeyed the 3rd leaving him to sign for a level- par second round of 72, maintaining his 18-hole tournament score of six under.
Alongside Fenwick, sharing second place, are Welshman Mark Laskey (71-67) and overnight leader Sam Connor (Alsager (66-72).
Michael Stewart (Troon Welbeck) is still in the mix, sharing fifth place on 140 after rounds of 69 and 71.
Elliot Saltman (Archerfield) is tied 10th with rounds of 73 and 69 for 142.
Other Scots who survived the cut to the leading 50 and ties at 147 and better were Ross Cameron (69 for 145), Fraser McKenna (71-146), Jordan Findlay (73-146), Paul Shields (72-14) and, right on the limit mark, Lloyd Saltman (75-147).
Scots who missed out included Paul Doherty by a single shot on 148 (74-74)
