Bob Stewart wins East of Scotland Seniors
Open at Downfield with a 71 for 145

By GORDON THOMSON
With a fine second round of 71 giving him a total of 145, Bob Stewart (Tulliallan) overtook the joint overnight leaders, Paul Moultrie (Royal Troon) and  Nick Robson (Meldrum House),  to win the East of Scotland Seniors Open by one stroke at Downfield Golf Club, Dundee today.

Stewart, pictured by Steve Ellis, who won the Scottish Seniors Championship at Elgin in 2008  and has a great record in SSGS events,  showed that at 64 he is still a major competitive force as he overcame the challenge of the younger brigade.

Moultrie and Robson, both 72-74, finished joint second on 146 with David Logie (Craigiehill), David Shields (Glenearn ),Tony Paterson (Sunningdale) and Murray Ferguson (Stirling) tied for fourth place on 149.
Ferguson,  who started the event at a handicap of 5, had  the consolation of winning the handicap prize.
The highly rated Downfield course was in fine condition for the event and presented an excellent test for the high quality field. The  CSS for both  days was 74 for the par 72 course
