Gareth Wright ties for second after mid-round

slump in PGA professional championship

West Linton's Gareth Wright finished joint second, only one stroke behind winner Paul Hendriksen, in the PGA professional championship today after a disaster-strewn run of five over par for the eight holes between the seventh and 14th in his final round at Burnham and Berrow Golf Club,Somerset, writes Colin Farquharson .
The Welshman, who had birdied the fourth and fifth, had a double bogey 6 at the seventh and bogeys at the ninth, 10th and 14th
Wright got back on track with a birdie at the 16th but came to the last hole, needing a birdie to force a play-off with Hendricksen (72 for four-over-par 288).
He didn't get it but a par 4 for 289 put him level with second-placed Cameron Clark (Moore Hall) and they earned £5,260 each compared with the winner's £10,000 reward.
Graham Fox (Clydeway Golf) and Craig Everett (Caldwell) finished in the top 10. Fox signed off with a 73 for 291 and a T8 finish which earned him £1,800 while Everett finished T10 on 292 with a closing 70 for a £1,250 pay-out.
