KYLE GODSMAN SETS PACE WITH 

A FOUR-UNDER-PAR 65 AT ELGIN

Kyle Godsman (Moray) set the pace in the first round of the North of Scotland Open Amateur stroke-play championship for the David Blair Trophy with a four-under-par score of 65.
Godsman, who played the US college golf circuit for four years as a student at South Carolina-Aiken University, has been playing well in SGU Order of merit 72-hole tournaments since his return.
He finished third in last weekend's North-east District Open over four rounds at Peterhead.
Godsman had six birdies in his first round - at the third, long fifth, 11th, 12th, 13th and 16th. He had two bogeys - at the ninth and 18th.
His closest rivals after the opening 18 holes at Elgin are twice Scottish schoolboys champion Connor Syme (Drumoig), winner of the North-east District Open, and experienced international Matthew Clark (Kilmacolm), both one behind on the 66 mark.
