Balmore's Christopher Maclean has made all the running through the first two rounds to lead by a single shot at the halfway point of the North-east District Open golf championship at Peterhea.d
Maclean, who finished joint fifth in the Tennant Cup and shared 17th place in the East of Scotland Open, opened with a four-under-par 66 and tagged on a one-over71 for a three-under-par tally of 137.
His closest rival going into the second half of the SGU 72-hole Order of Merit tournament is two-time Scottish schoolboys champion Connor Syme whose father, professional Stuart Syme, recently bought and re-opened the Drumoig Golf Centre near Leuchars as the family moved their base from Dumfries to Fife.
Royal Aberdeen's Nick Macandrew who beat Jamie Savage - later to win the irish open amateur title - in a play-off to win the Battle Trophy 72-hole tournament at Crail earlier this summer, is poised in third place on 140 (68-72) for a Sunday-best finish.
Because of the disappointing size of the field - there were 14 withdrawals and five "No Shows," bringing the number down to only 43 starters, there was no cut.
