BURLY AMERICAN NOW THREE SHOTS AHEAD OF FIELD

STADLER STEADY IN LEAD
REPORT BY EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Kevin Stadler continued his dominance of the Alstom Open de France despite finishing his second round of 68 with a double bogey.
The burly American moved to ten under par and extended his lead to three shots over leading home hope Victor Riu, but his advantage would have been considerably greater were it not for a seven on the par five ninth hole.
Riu delighted the large galleries at Le Golf National, in Versailles, with a round of 67 which featured five birdies, whilst Marcel Siem is two shots back on five under par after the German battled his way to a round of 72.
Defending champion Graeme McDowell of Northern Ireland is in a group of players in a share of fourth place on three under par after he added a 69 to his opening round of 70.

Key quotes:

Kevin Stadler
“I’ve putted brilliantly for the first couple days. I got a little sloppy on my final nine today, but other than that, I stroked the ball very well. I had a lot of chances and rolled in a lot of nice putts.
“It’s definitely a ball striker’s golf course. It has a lot of good, really definitive lines off the tees, which really shapes the shots for you. I enjoy holes that shape themselves for you.
“Here they present themselves and say: here is what you need to do, go ahead and do it. It’s just a really good golf course, the greens are great, and I’m certainly enjoying it so far.”
Victor Riu
“I know the course here very well because I practice at my home club Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche, but if I’m going out for 18 holes with my friends, normally I’ll come to Le Golf National to play.
“I would say my putting was very, very good today. My tee shots were a bit average, no big mistakes but I don’t think I hit many fairways. But I made up for it with my putting. To have only three bogeys in two rounds at Le Golf National is very good.”
Marcel Siem
“When I saw ten under par all day long on the leaderboard, I tried to catch up with him, which was a mistake.  You have to be very, very patient on this golf course, otherwise it kills you, and that’s what happened today. But I’m pleased with how I fought back on the back nine, so I’m still in this tournament.”
