GARETH WRIGHT BLOWS WINNING CHANCE WITH THREE LATE BOGEYS

JASON McCREADIE SCORES FIRST 2014 

WIN AT STRATHAVEN

Jason McCreadie (Buchanan Castle), pictured, scored his first win of the 2014 Tartan Tour with a three-under-par 68 at the Strathaven Golf Club pro-am today.

McCreadie's bag of six birdies - at the second, fifth, eighth, 10th, 12th and 14th - gave him a clear advantage over the field when he was finishing and he could afford to bogey the last and still win the £1,200 first prize by a shot.

Joint runners-up on 69 were later starters Graham Fox (Clydeway Golf) who had six birdies in a 12-hole span - second to the 14th - and Scottish PGA champion Gareth Wright (West Linton).

Welshman Wright had the first prize at his mercy when he had an eagle at the eighth and birdies at the first, third, fifth and 10th with only one shot, at the ninth, dropped.

But he did a "Devon Loch" - sagging before the winning post with bogeys at the 15th, 16th and 18th.
There was a quadruple tie on net 57 in the pro-am event and, after a count back, late finisher Greg McBain (Paul Lawrie Golf Centre) was the man who piloted the winning team whose names and handicaps were David Forsyth (5), Justin Longmuir (12) and Tom Forsyth (18).
The other three teams who had net 57s were those who had David Orr (Mearns Castle), Craig Gordon (Edinburgh Golf Centre) and Stephen Gray (Hayston) as their professionals.
