JACK McDONALD AND JAMES ROSS GET VITAL FOUR-BALL POINT

EUROPE LEAD USA BY ONE POINT

AT END OF PALMER CUP DAY ONE

Europe have a narrow one-point lead over  the United States at the end of the first day's play in the Palmer Cup students' international at Walton Heath Golf Club, Surrey.
The morning foursomes were shared 2 1/2-2 1/2 before Europe took the afternoon four-ball honours 3-2.
Grant Forrest (Craigielaw) was on the losing side in both sessions of play.
But the all-Scots pairing of Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie) and James Ross (Royal Burgess), after going down by one hole in the  morning session, gave the home team the overnight lead by winning the final four-ball tie by 3 and 1.

FOURSOMES (2 1/2-2 1/2)

Paul Dunne and Grant Forrest lost to Brandon Hagy and Ollie Schniederjans 2 and 1.
Thomas Detry and Jon Rahm bt Trey Mullinax and Robby Shelton 2 and 1.

Ricardo Gouveia and Erik Oja bt Rico Hoey and Jack Maguire 3 and 2.
Pep Angles and Louis Tomlinson halved with Wyndham Clark and Anthony Maccaglia

Jack McDonald and James Ross lost to Bryson Dechambeau and Stewart Jolly1 hole.

Gouveia and Oja lost to Mullinax and Shelton 4 and 3.
Forrest and Dunne lost to Hoey and Maguire 4 and 2

McDonald and Ross bt Clark and Jolly 3 and 2.
