ROBB'S EIGHTSOME LEAVES EAST OF 

SCOTLAND CH/SHIP RIVALS REELING

Chris Robb scored one of the easiest wins on record in the East of Scotland Open amateur stroke-play championship at Lundin Golf Club, Fife at the weekend.

The Meldrum House Golf Club, Oldmeldrum member, who played for the last four years on the American college golf circuit as a student at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, won the 72-hole event by eight strokes with an 18-under-par aggregate of 266 for the par-71 links lay-out.

Josh Jamieson (St Andrews New) set the first-round pace with a 66 but after that it was Robb in front all the way with consistently good scoring of 67, 66, 66 and 67 over a course that is by no means easy.

Robb, winner of last year's North-east District Open at Newmachar, is a former Scottish schoolboys champion and until recently was based at Banchory.

Distant runner-up was South AFrican Martin Rohwer who produced the low round of the tournament in Saturday's second session - an eight-under-par 63. He had had an earlier 71 and he added a 69 and 71 on Sunday for a 10-under-par total of 274 - sometimes good enough to win the title in the past.

Third place Brian Soutar (Leven Golfing Society) finished 12 shots behind the winner with rounds of 71, 67, 70 an d70 for 278 so it is fair to say that runaway Robb spreadeagled the field.
