FRANCIS, BERGER L;EAD USA SUCCESS AT FIRST STAGE OF Q SCHOOL

REPORT FROM EUROPEAN TOUR COMMUNICATIONS
Philip Francis and Daniel Berger spear-headed a story of American success at The European Tour Qualifying School First Stage Section C as they won their respective qualifiers at Circolo Golf Bogogno and Ribagolfe.
Las Vegas native Francis, who won four consecutive Junior World Golf Championships between 1999-2002, carded a final round 67 to finish on 17 under par and record a two shot win in the Italian venue of Bogogno, where 24 others made it through to the next stage.
Of those, there were six more Americans, a Brazilian, two Chileans, an El Salvadorian and a Canadian as well as players from all over Europe, emphasising the growing global appeal of The European Tour and Challenge Tour.
Among the Europeans was Italian Domenico Geminiani, a highly regarded 17 year old who has already built up significant experience on the Challenge Tour including a top ten finish last year, and 21 year old Adrian Saddier of France, fresh from a top five finish in the recent Open Blue Green Côtes d'Armor Bretagne on the Challenge Tour.
Meanwhile, at Ribagolfe, where there were long delays, former Florida State player Berger was one of seven Americans to make the grade as he finished four shots clear at the top on ten under par after a final round 69.
Ireland’s Kevin Phelan, who played at this year’s Walker Cup after impressing by making the cut as an amateur in The 2013 US Open Championship at Merion Golf Club, made it to Second Stage on the cut line in Portugal thanks to a final round 73 which left him on four over par.
