SVOBODA CZECHS OUT AFTER 46 SHOTS OVER SIX HOLES

Now here is a walk-off that grabs your attention.
Jakub Svoboda, a 20-year-old pro from the Czech Republic, was 21 over par for the first six holes of the Hassan II Trophy before he withdrew, citing a wrist injury, which is a strange byproduct of public humiliation.
That’s a 46 for six holes. By comparison, the first-round leader in Morocco, Marcel Siem, shot 8-under 64 (for all 18 holes).
If you’re wondering, the highest score ever recorded on the European Tour was 111, by Mark James at the 1978 Italian Open.
But give Svoboda this: At least he was consistent. He began his round 7-7-9-7-7-9 at the 6,844-yard, par-72 Golf du Palais Royal in Agadir, which has not and never will be mistaken for an Open Championship venue.
Sadly, it appears this isn’t the first time that Svoboda has carded a mammoth number in competition, either.
Last year he shot 88-79 at the Norwegian Challenge, 83-85 at the English Challenge and 91-84 at the Credit Suisse Challenge. In 2011, he made his European Tour debut at the Czech Open and carded 80-75, perhaps hinting at some untapped potential.
Instead, Svoboda is the 1,522nd-ranked player in the world, which may in fact be too generous.
