DUNCAN STEWART TOP 10 FINISH IN ABU DHABI

Duncan Stewart was tonight rueing a nightmare first-round 78 in the second event on the MENAH Tour, the Abu Dhabi Golf Citizen Open at Saadiyat Beach Club, Abu Dhabi. Subsequent rounds of 67 and 69 enabled him to surge up the cosmopolitan field and finish tied eighth on 214. If he had shot sub-70 round at the first time of asking he would finished only one stroke behind the winner, England's Ross McGowan who had rounds of 68, 69 and 67 for 12 under par 204 to win the US$9,000 first prize. Murrayshall's Gavin Dear, the leading joint in a share of fifth place going into the final round, plummeted to joint 17th in the final standings after a disappointing 75 for level par 216. Greg Nicolson (Mortonhall) finished T33 after rounds of 73-72-74 for 219. Zane Scotland, the Englishman who won the first event on the MENAH Tour, finished T38 on 220 with scores of 74, 72 and 74. Welshman Stephen Dodd, the leader after 36 holes, cracked under pressure to sign off with a 77 - after earlier rounds of 66 and 67, to finish fifth on 212.
