NICOL MAKES TOP TEN ON ALPS TOUR

Fraserburgh's Kris Nicol finished joint eighth and Philip McLean (Peterhead) shared 35th place in the Alps Tour's Valle d'Aosta Open which ended in the Alpine resort of Cervinia, Italy yesterday (Friday). In very cold conditions, there was a flurry of snow for the final round as Nicol scored 64, 67 and 73 for a three-under-par total of 204 over the par-69 course. Nicol, who had an outward half of 29 in the first round, finished six shots behind the winner, Frenchman Thomas Fournier (65-69-64 for 198). McLean had rounds of 67, 70 and 76 for 213.
