ANDREW FARMER LEADS RENFREWSHIRE ORDER OF MERIT
PRESS RELEASE FROM RENFREWSHIRE GOLF UNION
With only the County Championship at Bonnyton, the A P Scott Trophy at Caldwell and the Herbie Pirie Trophy at Renfrew left to play in the Order of Merit, Andrew Farmer (Kilmacolm) has a healthy lead.
His victories at the Eastwood Quaich and the Craigston Rose Bowl together with strong performances elsewhere have given him 673 points, more than 200 points ahead of Cochrane Castle’s Derek Anderson and 300 ahead of Steven Higgins of Gourock. With everything to play for, the final three events will be fiercely competed.
The Junior Order of Merit is a much closer affair. Ross Robertson of Old Ranfurly had been leading but chose to compete and qualify at the St Andrews Boys instead of competing at Port Glasgow. In his absence, Colin Edgar (Cochrane Castle ) shot an outstanding cpi67 to grab first place and 100 points. Josh Beatt (Fereneze) added 85 points to his total in second place with a solid 71. Both players leapfrogged Ross and the top three are Colin – 735, Josh 685 and Ross 656. There are three events to be played – Eastwood, Lochwinnoch and Kilmacolm.
There is a separate Order of Merit for under 15 year olds and Josh Beatt (1090), Conor Toal (850) and Ross Robertson (782) will fight it out at the remaining three events for that award.
